New Jersey City University
Jersey City, New Jersey
University Place
University Place is a seven-year, 23-acre, $400,000,000 development in an urban renewal area currently mid-way through construction on the west side of Jersey City. New Jersey City University (“NJCU”) in partnership with three private-sector developers is constructing five (5) mixed-use projects (rental apartments, in-line retail space, and structured parking), two large-scale “big box” retail projects, a new student resident hall, the new Center for Music, Dance and Theater, and the new 500-seat University Performing Arts Center. An outdoor pedestrian shopping arcade along the extension of Audubon Avenue and a large outdoor public plaza and performance space linking the pedestrian arcade with University Place (formerly Stegman Boulevard) represents urban place-making at its best. Our firm is NJCU’s Owner’s Representative, acting as its agent in coordinating the development of the private sector partnerships and as its Construction Manager, overseeing the construction of all new public roadways, outdoor spaces, and utilities.
Saint Peter’s University
Jersey City, New Jersey
Carbon Reduction, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Project
Phase I
Completed in February 2013, the first phase of the Saint Peter University Carbon Reduction, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation Project encompasses a holistic energy conservation approach among many of the University’s buildings. The centerpiece of the project is a 320 kilowatt tri-generation plant with a 150 ton hot water absorption chiller for year-round heating and cooling of three of the University’s buildings while providing electricity for seven of its buildings. Four of the buildings contain a total of 200 kilowatts of solar energy production. The University’s athletic facility has undergone a lighting retrofit to all of its high-use areas. In addition to these three energy conservation measures, the University has installed an intelligent peak load control system, three new high efficiency steam boilers, steam trap replacements, and weatherproofing to many exterior doors.
Phase II
The second phase of the project continues with the holistic energy approach of the first phase. A 160 kilowatt tri-generation plant with a 60 ton hot water absorption chiller has been installed to produce thermal efficiencies in two dormitories while providing electricity for the Thomas MacMahon Student Center. Solar panels are fitted on three roofs for a total capacity of 90 kilowatts. Finally, the lights in three dormitories have been retrofitted with a combination of new high-efficiency fluorescents and LED lighting.
Phase III
The third phase of the Saint Peter’s project adds resiliency to the campus’ electric service through the use of gas generators and stand-by generation capabilities to the two tri-generation plants installed in the first two phases.
